Two-Day Familiarisation Tour to Northern Regional Health Directorate and Selected Facilities
On 27th and 28th November, 2025, the Ghana Health Service Council Secretary and I had the privilege of embarking on a familiarisation tour of the Northern Regional Health Directorate and some selected facilities across the region as members of the Ghana Health Service Council together with the Regional Director of Health Service and his core management. The purpose of our visit was to gain a firsthand understanding of the operational challenges and successes within the region’s health system. This will inform our policy directions and support for resource allocation to better support the health needs of the people in the Northern Region.
During the tour, we assessed the infrastructure, human resource capacity, and service delivery mechanisms critical to achieving universal health coverage in the region. Understanding the health indicators, maternal and child health challenges, and the state of primary healthcare facilities will guide us in identifying priority areas for intervention.
The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between the GHS Council and the regional health team, fostering open dialogue and shared commitment toward improving health outcomes. We are committed to developing effective and sustainable health policies, tailored to the unique socio-economic and geographic contexts of this region.
Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, Ag. Deputy Director General for Quality and Access, GES.
