Strengthening Special Education for Quality and Inclusive Learning in Ghana

On Thursday, 8th May 2025, I had the opportunity to engage in a highly productive and insightful discussion with the dedicated staff of the Special Education Division at the Ghana Education Service (GES) Headquarters. As the Deputy Director-General for Quality and Access at GES, I remain deeply committed to promoting an education system that is both inclusive and equitable, ensuring that every Ghanaian child has access to quality education, regardless of their individual learning needs.

Our conversation centered around developing and implementing effective strategies to enhance support for students with special educational needs. We explored various approaches to improve teaching methodologies, provide tailored educational resources, and create a more accessible learning environment for all students. The dialogue also emphasized the importance of continuous training for educators, early identification of special needs, and fostering a culture of acceptance and inclusion in schools across the country.

This engagement reaffirms our dedication to strengthening the foundation of special education within Ghana’s education system, ensuring that no child is left behind in their pursuit of knowledge and personal development.
