Two-Day Familiarisation Tour to the Upper West Regional Health Directorate and Selected Facilities
On the 24th and 25th of November, 2025, the Regional Parent for Upper West and I had the privilege of embarking on a familiarisation tour of the Upper West Regional Health Directorate and selected health facilities across the region, in my capacity as a member of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Council. The purpose of this visit was to gain firsthand insight into the operational realities, challenges, and achievements within the region’s health system. This understanding will play a key role in shaping policy direction and guiding resource allocation to better meet the health needs of the people of the Upper West Region.
Throughout the tour, we reviewed critical areas such as infrastructure, human resource capacity, and service delivery processes that are essential to the attainment of universal health coverage. A closer look at the region’s health indicators, maternal and child health concerns, and the condition of primary healthcare facilities will help us identify priority areas for targeted intervention.
The visit also aimed to strengthen collaboration between the GHS Council and the regional health team, promoting open dialogue and reinforcing our shared commitment to improving health outcomes. We remain dedicated to developing effective and sustainable policies tailored to the region’s unique socio-economic and geographic conditions.
Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, Ag. Deputy Director General for Quality and Access, GES.
